Vietnam’s tuna exports in April 2022

MEKSEA.COM – According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s tuna exports in April continued to increase by 46% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching more than 108 million USD. Cumulatively in the first 4 months of the year, the export value reached nearly 368 million USD, up 63% over the same period in 2021.

 

Due to the covid-19 pandemic and the political turmoil situation, the inflation rate has been recorded high in many countries affecting tuna demands in the markets. However, some markets continued to maintain good growth rates.

The US

Vietnam’s tuna exports to the US continued to increase strongly in April 2022. In April, Vietnam’s tuna exports to the US reached 64 million USD, equivalent to export value more than doubled over the same period in 2021. As a result, Vietnam’s tuna exports to the US reached 201 million USD in the first 4 months of 2022. This number increased 112% over the same period. This growth continues to help the US consolidate its position as the No. 1 tuna export market in Vietnam, accounting for nearly 55%. Increase demand, while a shortage of material in the region continues to boost the import demand of this market.

CPTPP

Along with the US, tuna imports by the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership countries (CPTPP) are also increasing. In April, the value of tuna exports to these countries increased by 35%, reaching nearly 11.5 million USD. Total import value in the first 4 months of the year reached nearly 42 million USD, up 39% over the same period in 2021. Notably, in April, the export recovery in the Japanese market. After a continuous decline, the value of tuna exports to Japan increased by 20% in April. While exports to Mexico unexpectedly decreased this month.

EU

In the EU market, Vietnam’s tuna exports decreased after growing continuously in the first 3 months of the year. The value of tuna exports to this market in April reached 15 million USD, down 18% compared to the same period in 2021. But thanks to the good growth at the beginning of the year, the export value of tuna to this market in 4 months. At the beginning of 2022, it still increased by 13% over the same period last year, reaching 53 million USD.

In addition to the above main export markets, the export value of tuna to other potential markets such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the Philippines continued to grow well over the same period last year.
